In recent years the Vietnamese Prime Minister has enacted numerous decisions (covered in detailed below), approving the development plan for Phu Quoc to provide preferential policies for domestic and foreign investors, with the aim of turning Phu Quoc into a world class ecotourist destination while ensuring minimal impact on the environment via a responsible and managed approach to development. It is anticipated that by the year 2010, Phu Quoc will have the required infrastructure to welcome between 500,000 - 600,000 visitors per year; and between 2 - 3 million visitors a year by 2020.

Decisions issued:

1. No. 01/2007/QD-TTg: January 08, 2007 - Approval of overview planning tourist development in Phu Quoc Island, Kien Giang province in the period of  2006-2020

2. No. 38/2006/QĐ-TTg: February 14th, 2006
- Decision on promulgation of statute for organisation and operation of Phu Quoc Island and Nam An Thoi Island cluster, Kien Giang province

3. No. 38/2006/QÑ-TTg: February 14th, 2006
- Decisions of Prime Minister in relation to the development of Phu Quoc Island

4. No. 14/QĐ-TTg: January 4th, 2006
- Approving the planning on sustainable development of communications on Phu Quoc Island, Kien Giang Province, in the period from now to the year 2010 and Orientation to the year

5. No. 344/2005/QD-TTg: December 26, 2005
- on directions, tasks and plans for communications and transport development in the Mekong River Delta till 2010 and Orientations towards 2020

6. No. 1197/QĐ-TTg: November 9th, 2005
- Approval of the general planning on construction of Phu Quoc Island, Kien Giang Province, Till 2020

7. No. 229/2005QĐ-TTg: September 16th, 2005
- Promulgating the regulation on Foreigners entry into, exit from, and residence in Phu Quoc Island, Kien Giang Province

8. No. 178/2004/QĐ-TTg: October 5th, 2004
- Approval of the overall plan for the development of Phu Quoc Island, Kien Giang Province. The plan mandates two development stages - Stage 1 spans 2004-2010 and Stage 2 covers 2011-2020. It also entitles Phu Quoc to apply the highest preferential policies permitted by the Vietnamese State
